Volunteers
Lucia Crenshaw came to St. Timothy's on July 4th 2006 as a volunteer via Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS). She worked for about a month. She was inspired by what the school was doing in transforming the lives of children. Then, the school was still operating in the hired premises of the government at Bomambuzi. Lucia and Imogen de Galleani thought of how they could help the school to be built in a permanent plot. As Imogen shared with her grandma, she succeeded to raise 250 euros, which is equivalent to 750,000 Tsh. This was the first donation which helped us to survey the purchased plot on which the school exists now.
When Lucia went to America, she shared the idea with her friends, and it took 3 years before coming back to Tanzania. As she was searching for organizations to help her raise money to build four classrooms, a toilet, and an office, she was linked to Nyla Rodgers, the director of Mama Hope. In May 2009, we were able to begin the partnership with Mama Hope. In 3 months, Lucia was able to raise 100,000,000 Tsh through her wonderful fundraising campaign, including gifts she received for her birthday, which were all the source of her fast growth. In 3 months we managed to build 6 classrooms and 13 toilets. The school was then registered. Today the school has a wonderful performance just because of Lucia's efforts.
The first volunteers were Aliya Martin and Ashley Marks. They both came from the United States to St. Timothy's on July 18th, 2006 and helped our organization in the following areas:
1. Psychosocial support
2. Outreach program to reach and educate people living with HIV/AIDS
3. They helped in the amendment of the constitution of our organization
4. They trained our leaders on the use of computers and the internet
